"Who Cares if one more light goes out? Well I do."About a month ago we learned about the tragic suicide of Chester Bennington, lead singer for Linkin Park. I personally came to love Linkin Park when I was introduced to them by a friend in middle school around the release of their Meteora album. Absolutely loved the way they mixed Rock and Rap music together. A year later, they released Collision Course wth Jay-Z making them the coolest band introducing me to Rock music in general. I was aware other rock bands before, like Limp Bizkit, Drowning pool, and others who had landed placements on WWF (now WWE) wrestling shows and commercials (first album I owned was Creed's Weathered), but none of which caught my attention in the way that Linkin Park did. I'd definitely have to credit them as a musical influence opening me up to a whole other world of music. Needless to say, news of Chester's passing was pretty heartbreaking. Today, as I watched the music video for Linkin Park's One More Light, it brought back those feelings, as well as some nostalgia about discovering my first favorite rock band. It was also a reminder of the humanity of celebrities, artists, and creative individuals in general. We all have our vulnerabilities, and those who are creative I feel are even more vulnerable. Often times we need that validation that we're important to someone, that someone cares if we're here or gone. That support system is often what keeps us going, and the lack of it can cause some to make unfavorable choices in life. This song serves as a great reminder that whether someone's going through depression or just dealing with a life in general, to make sure we are showing that we care for the people around us. You never know what simple gesture can do for a person's life.
